What You Need To Be A Virtual Assistant

Becoming a virtual assistant is not the easiest thing to do. But I can guarantee you that you will be earning enviable amounts of money if you become very good at it.

Virtual assistants are simply assistants who work remotely. They are often assigned tasks such as online research, blog writing, customer support, email marketing, social media marketing, and so on.

Some of the tasks above may sound somewhat technical but they are often very basic. Clients usually provide all the instructions on what they need done. Some even provide training before assigning tasks.

So there is nothing too technical to worry about.

Below is a guide to making money as a virtual assistant. It is based on some extensive research work I did recently.

  1. Take a virtual assistant training course

Virtual assistant work may sound easy (and it is easy) but you need to enroll for virtual assistant course or training program to ensure that you are adequately prepared.

By enrolling for a virtual assistant course or training program, you will learn how to plan your time, how to address clients, about the kinds of tasks you will be expected to handle, and so on and so forth.

Learning these things will help you significantly when applying for virtual assistant jobs.

There are many such virtual assistant training courses/ programs available online. Some are free, some will cost you a minimal fee, while others have high fees. Choose the most comprehensive one to ensure you get maximum value for your time and money.

  • Buy the equipment you will need

When you take any virtual assistant training course or program, you will quickly discover that the work cannot be done without some equipment.

Some of the things you will need include a computer, a webcam, high-speed internet, and a working desk.

Make sure you buy them to prepare yourself adequately for your job.

  • Apply for jobs

There are many websites where clients looking for virtual assistants usually post their jobs/ tasks. They include freelance websites such as Freelancer.com, peopleperhour.com, wahm.com, craigslist.com, and Upwork.com.

Register on these sites and apply for jobs.

You can also set an alert for the term “virtual assistant” on the Google jobs website to get alerts for the latest jobs/ vacancies.

Jobs on the above-mentioned freelance websites pay a decent amount of money. However, to make good money, you will have to do something else. Find out below.

  • Earn very good money

There are two ways to earn very good money as a virtual assistant: direct clients and becoming an expert.

Direct clients are clients who work with you directly (not through freelance websites). They usually pay more and since you are working directly with them, you won’t be charged any commission by any company.

To find direct clients, ask your current clients directly for recommendations. You can also post your skills on social media for anyone who is interested to find you easily.

The second way to earn very good money is by becoming an expert. This you can do by identifying the task you enjoy doing right now and doing a course on it to become an expert.

Make sure the course you do as a certificate and add it to your profile when you earn it. When you do this, clients will automatically be willing to pay you more.
